Ents
I discovered my first Ent many years ago whilst I was leaning my cheek against a young Ash. I lazily asked it to speak to me. Little did I guess it would answer! Since then I have discovered lots of Ents and I guarantee you will too if you will only go out and listen.
But where should you look for Ents? Well, we all know the woods are full of them and that all the grand old trees are bound to have a residing Ent. But these ancient spirits are wily and good at eluding us humans! They will not speak unless they have very good reason. No, instead you must surprise a young tree. Young trees, especially trees growing in woods where they are at their happiest, are much more chatty. Choose, if you can, a windy day when their spirits are even more excited and incautious than usual, press your ear to a tree you are drawn to, close your other ear and just say “Hello Ent are you there?” Good luck!
This is as far as you can go in catching Ents, catching them talking – Ents should be left in their natural environment, not taken home!
